Add markdown cheat sheet
Often requested, still looking for a good place to put it. An awesome suggestion was linking the "add MARKDOWN here", but there is still need for a link while editing or so.
Markdown cheatsheet is now implemented. Hover over the “Formatting help” tab in edit mode to see it. Let me know what you think!

Hey 01101101, thanks for your feedback! I've tested in latest Firefox (on Mac if that makes a difference) and everything works as intended for me. Have you tried refreshing the page to make sure your cache is cleared? I'll test on a Windows machine later when I get on one.
Formatting buttons were suggested before. To be super-honest, I don't like the idea so much because formatting buttons clutter the page and are more of a thing of WYSIWYG editors, but it's open for discussion, regardless: https://thoughtplan.uservoice.com/forums/264068-feature-requests/suggestions/6444476-basic-formatting-buttons-for-noobs Thanks for this suggestion!
You're completely right about the mobile friendliness, though. I'm not even sure where I would put the cheat sheet in the mobile version of the site. I would probably, as you say, need a toggle button somewhere. I'm wondering if people would prefer a toggle-button over a hover-button in the desktop-version as well.
Thanks a lot for sharing your feedback and being in touch! :)

Sorry for the double post, I wanted to add that hovering might not be the best choice in the prospect of a future responsive/mobile-friendly website. Maybe toggle the cheat sheet display on top or below the content, or forget the cheat sheet entirely and add select-and-format buttons like in a text editor?

Not intended I think: for me (latest Firefox), the cheat sheet appears in preview mode as well, and the reactive area for hovering seems to extend way further than just the "Formatting help" tab (both in preview and edit mode)

Sorry, the "Formatting help" tab is of course only visible in edit mode, not preview mode.

The markdown cheat sheet is now implemented and deployed to production. You can hover the "Formatting help" tab in preview mode to see it. What do you guys think?

I think another way to go about this would be to implement a tabbing system in the editor. Have a tab for a cheat sheet, and a separate one for markdown.

I've added a little link to GitHub's markdown guide until Thought Plan has its own little guide. This does not resolve this issue, it's just a temporary solution until a better one is ready.

I played with your idea, Shadowhand, there's not enough room to show a cheat sheet to the right if you don't have a huge display.
I think an overlay like Paul suggested might be the only option. It's a bit too bad because (even if it's transparent) it will obstruct the view of the content input, unless I make it tiny and ugly. :/

Maybe some simple Keyboard shortcut like Alt + ? that opens a semi-transparent, non input catching overlay? And a small text in the footer telling you about that feature :)
This overlay could show both Markdown help, extra features you added, and Keyboard shortcuts for the whole app.

Not a bad idea, Shadowhand, thanks!

Maybe have an arrow to the right of that highlighted box (edit box), that can expand and show a cheatsheet.
